Hip Hop Bologna
Italian music has a long and distinguished history. The whole world has heard of Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Enrico Caruso, Luciano Pavarotti, and Ennio Morricone. Modern rock artists like Vasco Rossi, Luciano, Zucchero and Lucio Dalla have not been embraced in the same way because the modern music world is dominated by the English language, but they are huge stars in Italy. However, although we are very proud of our past, Mascarella is all about the present and our passion is Hip Hop.
Although today the centre of Italian Hip Hop is undoubtably Milan, Bologna was the first city to embrace this phenomena and has been involved in the Hip Hop scene ever since. Bands such as “Isola Posse All Star” were amongst the first Italain Hip Hop groups in the late 80’s and 90’s that had a huge influence on the way Hip Hop developed in Italy. In 2006, Bologna was the first Italian ciity approved as a City of Music by UNESCO and it’s Hip Hop roots were one of the main reasons it was chosen for such an honour.
Today, Bologna retains it’s underground spirit of Hip Hop. It has a thriving Hip Hop scene with many talented artists and clubs. The BoloBeat festival in December 2023 celebrated the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop culture in Bologna and 2024 will see many more events and concerts….and Mascarella will be at the centre of the action to tell you all about it!
