Bologna FC 1909

Mascarella originated in Bologna, so who do you think we support. It’s not obligatory to support Bologna, but most of us are fanatical about them. We have a great team, stadium and fans. Many of us go to see the games live, but if not, we like to gather at the Bolo Art-Cafè at watch the matches on TV.

As the name implies, Bologna were founding members of Serie A in 1909 and were immediately successful winning the league six times before the 2nd World War. Their home ground is the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara which is considered the most beautiful in Italy. It’s not a very big ground, but unlike many others it’s usually packed with an average gate of over 25 thousand so has a great atmosphere.

As the clubs from the bigger cities grew richer and could afford to buy the best players, Bologna ceased to dominate and although still a very competative, won their last league title in 1964. However, we at Mascarella are very happy to see this is changing and that in 2024 they have qualified for the Champions League for the first time ever! Just the begining of a new era where they challenge for trophies every year?
